GARO Fanfic -A survival affair, 1(3)

Chap. 1: Stalk (Part 3)

As luck or misfortune, that Koga was there when two doctors came into the mansion. Although he has finished eating, and thus he was more accessible than usual, he does not like the way both visitors look at Kaoru, at all.

Kaoru sometimes cursed her growing ease in reading her man’s thoughts. She only can watch him in there, sitting with one leg crossed over a knee, and both hands gripping the chair arms, and to beg the  doctors not to take kicks by him. When Dr. Shimizu begins to allude the time she was in the hospital by have been infected, she thinks Kouga is going to get up and leave, but he keeps himself in order of not letting her alone with them.

“Let me tell you,  Mrs. Saejima”  Dr. Shimizu says, “we are very surprised that you are still alive”.

Kouga suppresses an outburst, but his eyes do not hide anything.

“Do you know”, the doctor continues, ignoring him “that all who have suffered such injuries are dead or close to it?”

His deliberate silence only is useful to make easy the quick response by Kouga.

“I was right to keep her from such incompetent people”.

The younger doctor is impressed by such embarrasing frankness, but the gaze by Dr. Shimizu is exceptic. And hard.

“Since you know so much”, he replies to the owner of the house, perhaps you could tell us what caused that terrible wound”.

“You know it very well: it was an animal”.

“It must be an unknown species”, the doctor insists.

Kaoru involves herself.

“Why do you say it? Every day they discover new species of animals and plants. Just find the one you need”.

The doctor does not give up.

“A deadly microbe has infected many people, and they were infected by other or by animals. We need to examine you, madam, to find the cause of your healing, and to apply it to those people still living”.

If Dr. Shimizu was a telepath, he would have been overwhelmed by the strong mental protests from the couple. Kouga's thoughts were at par with hers on this subject: she never again will be between the hands of some doctors. Both of them do not dare to think about what were they going to find within her body and her blood if she was examined.

This refractory, uncomfortable silence that followed make the visitor to get up, which his companion does too.

“Do not worry, we're leaving. But ask yourself this question: As the epidemic spreads, could you bear yourselves for not having done anything? What right have you to be called humans, if you are indifferent to the fate of others?”

Kaoru turns back to Kouga. She feels him ready to burst. How can this doctor to launch such accusations against someone who has devoted his life to the survival of humanity?

“I give a damn what you think!”  Kouga replies, not in good ways. “ You aren’t worth of another answer”.

Both pairs of eyes meet, and fight. The young woman rests her hand on her husband's arm to distract him, while addressing the poor doctor who does not know where he is getting into.

“Doctor, please do not take this as a negative to...”

“Oh no?” the referred one interrupts sharply. “How should I take it, then?”

“As an opportunity to make an even greater finding. When you had achievedit, I still continue being here”.

Kouga looks askance. Is she thinking to expose the Makai world?

But the cryptic response from her does not please Dr. Shimizu.

“I do not know what's playing at, madam, but maybe when you finish you will not find anyone willing to listen”.

She lowers her eyes in shame.

“Please, do not stop researching. But if you just lock yourself within your laboratory you only see a small part of the picture. Sorry, I can not say any more”.

“Are you unable or unwilling?”

“It's time to leave”. Kouga has stood before Kaoru had a chance to say something else.

Officially expelled, both doctors follow the butler to the outer door. But before leaving the room, just at the threshold, Dr. Shimizu stops his walk and stars at the couple.

“I want you to say that I will not give up”, and leaves the room.

After their departure, Kaoru and her husband look each other worried. Both of them have been touched by the doctor's words. But they know that if Kaoru obeys him, she will never leave the hospital, and without awarranty of finding the remedy to seek. Not to mention the pile of questions that will be asked and that could not be answered. How may you say that humans are as guilty of the presence of the horrors as the ecological destruction of the planet? Above all, how to say that things will get worse? But somehow, they must begin to prepare mankind for what is coming.

The great advantage of her big empathy with Kouga is now Kaoru no longer feels uncomfortable when he reacts silent or leaving. His mind has told her everything she needs to know and can act accordingly. But now he comes and hugs her, suddenly, as if to protect her frin what is to come. She nakes the same, trying to protect him too.

“We must do something”, she says, with half of her mouth covered by his shoulder.

He says nothing, but Kaoru feels him to consider the possibility of convening a Makai emergency meeting.

“Yes, do it”.

Kouga puts away his head to look at her. He does not like to read his thoughts without his consent. Because of that Kaoru tries not being to obvious, but damn! now it has escaped. For the umpteenth time he tries to remember that it is fortunate that only her had this abilityr, and he can feel calm. Reluctant to himself, his head moves in a single, faint nod.

GARO Fanfic - Cuestión de supervivencia, 1 (3)

Cap. 1: Acecho (parte 3)

No merece otra respuesta.

– ¿Ah no?

GARO fanfic - A suvival affair, 1 (2)

Chap. 1: Stalk (Part 2)

“Here is the answer”.

Dr. Shimizu jerks in his hand a sheet just snatched away from the printer, while moves his piercing eyes over each of his colleagues, sitting around the conference table.

“Doctor Ongawa” says to one of them, “you were almost forced to discharge this patient, despite showing no signs of recovery, isn’t it?”

“Why do you think” replies the aforementioned one “she has not died, too?”

“She has not been admitted to any hospital again. I consulted to my friends at other hospitals, but none of them has received anyone with that name”.

“I am not surprised” Dr. Ongawa says. “You should have seen her husband, boyfriend or whatever. Sure he was one among those fans of witch medicines. I bet now he is crying at her grave. Poor girl!” he concludes, shaking his head.

Then, Dr. Shimizu leves the record on hand on the table. As if thinking aloud, he says:

“I was so worried about this case that I managed to get a confident whithin the city council, who is aware of the death registry. And, no data”. He focuses back to the infectious disease service doctors. “I must insist: Kaoru Mitsuki is alive. She was the first one infected, so she knows the cause. Maybe her boyfriend knows the treatment”.

He sights his colleagues again.

“We must get Miss Mitsuki to be subjected to the tests to know how she healed. We have to achieve the Ministry to ordain the epidemic alert”.

Another doctor smiles in disbelief.

“An epidemy? No one has shown that an infected one had spread it to no one”.

“Yet” another doctor replies “everyone were assaulted or torn by a person or an animal, fantasy left aside”.

A soft laughter runs through the table. All of them remember the story of the huge poodle or the squirrel as big as a bear. Although they did not mentioned that the forensics confirmed such an authorship, regardless of the size.

*   *   *

“ ... And beekeepers are baffled by the progressive death of their bees. What rare disease is leaving our stores without honey, natural wax, and any of the products by these animals?”

The curiosity of this news makes Gonza to leave momentarily quiet the meal and the vegetables literally in his hand, while the TV screen shows a beehive, and no insects buzzing around.

“We do not know if they die”, says a beekeeper to the camera. “No bodies. They simply disappear, as if they taken away by the wind”.

Gonza reminds he has got honey for a whole year and stops worrying. Surely whe he needed it again, the problem will be already solved. He focusses again on the preparation of the tempura”.

“The mysterious plague” the TV journalist goes on, “has begun almost simultaneously in different parts of the archipelago, denying the possibility of a single focus. So, is there anyone deliberately spreading it?”

Kaoru enters into the kitchen and heads for the china cabinet.

“Wait a moment, my lady”, Gonza warns her “the dishes are there, next to the sink. I have not had time to put it there this afternoon”.

The girl takes them to the dining room for dinner.

“We have taken some samples to the lab”, another beekeeper says on the screen, but there they have assured us that bees are healthy”.

A reflex makes Kaoru to watch the television. And she remains there, stunned. But she recovers soon and goes on with her work. The butler asks himself why, suddenly, he has the feeling that has appeared a horror.

Cap. 1: Acecho (parte 2)

*   *   *

GARO Fanfic – A survival affair, 1 (1)

This fic begins about seven or eight months after ending of Blood Call.

Chap. 1: Stalk (Part 1)

Kaoru gets out from her slumber when she heard a noise. Kouga has returned. And about time too, it's almost five in the morning.

She waits for him for a while. Nothing. Intrigued, she gets up from the bed and goes downstairs. He has settled in the sofa, fully clothed, shoes and coat as well.

She turns on the light. He tightens his eyelids as a protest, before to open his eyes. Those dark circles under there... He has spent the whole day and night chasing horrors, and there are already ten days. He needs a break, but it is a taboo subject, and she chooses to say nothing about. She approaches the sofa and he sits to make room to her.

“Why don’t you come to bed?” she says.

“Why?” Kouga answers dully.

“Even if only for an hour, you should to try relaxing. Come on, go upstairs”. She puts her hands on her hips. “And, I won’t take a NO for an answer”.

A hint of a smile of his, followed of he to his feet, get Kaoru satisfied. A nice change. The last few days he had a very bad mood, and apparently, now he is too tired even for that.

Upstairs, she aims to help him to undress, but he rejects her. She makes him to lie on bed face down, and then she massages his back. Kouga purrs gently, before becoming deeply asleep. It is a good sign, he is again comfortable before her, his thoughts do not worry about her. But for he does not like at all the horrors feed themselves from her... But Kaoru gives no option to choose. No, if the Makai Knights no longer are enough to keep them at bay.

She lies beside him, covers both bodies with the quilt and watches his face, which would be beautiful if it was not so uptight. She places her finger between his eyebrows and keeps it there until it relaxes. Then she strokes his head, very slowly, as if unwilling ofdishevelled, but she somehow wants to show how much she needs him, how much she suffers in seeing him so exhausted, and with so little hope that things will change.

Before she can go back to sleep, his well trained biological clock wakes up Kouga, just in time for his morning training session. She wonders if he could finish it, especially if he will have time to have breakfast. He can remain some days without sleepping, but he can not spare many meals, and lately he has been forced to avoid six ones.

As Kouga walks determined to the training room, she goes to the kitchen, where she learns from Gonza how to prepare some decent and nutritious breakfast. The butler remains still, with the old coffee pot half-closed between his hands, watching the television.

“What is it?” she asks.

“A man has been teared off an arm by a bite”. His voice does not hide his concern. “Too long ago we had no evidence of the Bariri horrors... aside the experiences you notify to us, ma'am. Why they shows themselves now?”

Kaoru makes a slight sigh.

“Opposite to the usual horrors, the Bariri doesn’t like much human flesh. Usually they only make some small attacks: a puncture, cut, to sink a fang as maximum, just to get some few drops of blood and to copy the fellow. They realized that if they call our attention they can be located. I think that specific horror hasn’t found another way of feeding itself”.

As Gonza returns to the task of closing the coffee pot, Kaoru's heart contracts. That horror only has eaten one arm. When survival needs make Bariri to change their diet, the world will become a battleground between species. Only she is still able to perceive disguised Bariris as she feels a magnetic pull, but they have to find a less personal way to identify them.

GARO Fanfic – Blood call, 6, and finish

Chap. 6:  Remainings  (and finish)

Kaoru wakes up in bed. She opens the bedside light and see the other side of the bed empty. Through the window shows the night. Kouga must be hunting.

She looks at the room. How has she reached here? But, she was in ...

She remembers everything. Her torture by the bright beings. When she came to take Kouga off. Her merger to Meshia. Her flight from home. Her pregnancy ...

Her hands fly to her empty belly. Her child had been perverted and killed! She turns in bed until her face sinks into the pillow, and cries. About the child that she has not cried before. About they had she to become evil and she had accepted. About she had left to kill her love to Kouga. About she feels so small, now that Meshia had left her.

*   *   *

“Certainly I didn’t see your dad doing it” the new Zaruba says to its owner “but I doubt that hurling energy with the edge of your sword may involve to streep some leaves off some trees. This way you only get it to bounce to as many obstacles as find and to get back to you”.

Kouga feels tempted to send an outburst to it, but he remains silent and gets ready to try it again. Refocuses an invisible ball at the tip of his sword.

“Hello!” a lively voice greets. Kaoru is back, and he responds with a hint of a smile.

Gonza gets out with the tea, and reachers the table in the garden about the same time as her. Kouga finishes his training and go with them: he is more interested to hear the news by his wife than the protests by the speaking ring.

“How was your day?” he says as sitting.

Kaoru looks at him with that enigmatic smile that she uses since she got rid of her extra charge, which he begins to interpret as “I know something you do not know”. He can not blame her. This is a question that he never would have asked her if it had not happened what happened.

“No, now nothing rare has happened. Sorry”.

But she is not sorry. She hates to worry him, he knows it well. It was difficult she could tell him what was wrong when he saw her so upset coming home the first day she went to work, five days earlier.

She said throughout the day she had passed with three horrors - what, three?, he alarmed - one among them a Bariri - how d’you know that? Kouga asked himself again. - The three among them approached her .

“What happened?” he hurried, as she doubted.

He had to embrace her before she decided to speak. She needed his support at that moment. She told her fingers grew some long bone extension, like thorns, when each of the “normal” disguised horrors stopped in front of her, and she nailed those appendages into their bodies. Both of them remained very quiet. Only when her mind calmed enough she could will to end with that, the appendages were reabsorbed by her body, and the horrors left peacefully. With the Bariri one, it was different. A lump grew about the height of its stomach, which appealed something from herself. At this time she could also decide when to end it. In all three cases, she felt tired after ending.

After finishing the story Kougha came to embrace her again, stronger, as if to prevent Meshia snatch her back.

As Kaoru has been telling, as the perserved memories of Meshia she shared with him, and what Meshia herself said to him, Kouga has begun to see the real situation.

Meshia had been, literally, goddess of a whole world and mother of all its inhabitants. Her disappearance would leave this world in a critical position. The three horrors Kaoru had contacted that day were fed instinctively by her. As they were three and not only one, and the increasingly frequent calls Makai Knights from sanctuaries, clearly shows that the horrors begin to invade the human world, and this fact will create more gateways. Even if Kaoru says that there are remains of Meshia enough to keep the horror world for several years, its inhabitants know they have to make changes in order to survive. The purification of humanhood for all their wickedness is rapidly approaching, and it will not be slight.

Hearing his deep sigh, Kaoru's voice brings his mind back.

“Perhaps I might consider how to feed them without getting tired, and so ...”

“No way!” And, he feels somewhat confused by the increasing ease by her to guess his thoughts when both of them are close to each other.

“But” she tries to make Kouga see sense “horrors that I’ve fed have spent a whole day without eating any human being”.

“You don’t know it”.

“Yes, I know! Although you didn’t want to believe it. Although ... we didn’t want to believe it.

He puts his cup of tea back on the table.

“Meshia’s left you a lot as an inheritance”.

“So much d’you care?”

“It wasn’t left much of you when you both shared a body”.

“That's not accurate. Imagine yourself considering the pros and cons of a decision you must do. It was the same. For example, a part of me knew I wanted to get back to you, but another part deemed if it was acceptable, how, when and why. Which reasoning could I wield against someone as old and with so much knowledge? She overwhelmed me, and took advantage of my feelings, memories and thoughts to lay her plans. I couldn’t help but understand why she did what she did”.

“And yet”, Kouga says, “I swear there were a few occasions in which I saw of felt you”.

“I think Meshia dropped her guard occasionally. As you mention it ...” She pauses thoughtfully for a minute... “Yes, that is so, I did’nt remember”. Another of her enigmatic smiles. He should get used to it. “D’you know what really conquered her?”

“Luminous beings’ involvement”.

“Yes, but you didn’t realize that there was a real spiritual battle, did you?”

“Indeed, a divine force against an devil force”.

“Not exactly. A divine force with another divine force”.

The confusion on his face is clear. She explains herself.

“Luminous beings’ nature made them invulnerable by her, and she realized what she had could be and couldn’t because she blew her chance. Her own divine self, isolated and forgotten for eons woke up, only for a moment, but enough to Meshia to feel the need of ... how did she make? ... come home”

Kouga thinks about it. It is too esoteric to understand by his feelings, but his mind can. But, just like that?

“So, she’s come home?”

Kaoru denied with her head.

“She just had set out. She’s got a lot to purify”.

This reassures the valiant fighter that Kouga is, and puts things straight.

“I meant”, she goes on, “when it became clear to her that you left her to the luminous beings, Meshia began to withdraw and stopped repressing my own nature and, for once, I could take advantage of her own knowledge. Stand up”.

He looks surprised, but he does. She leads him away from the table and asks him to put his armor on.

“Why?”

“Trust me”.

Kouga has to remember this is Kaoru, and can trust her. A mental exercise that he had to do several times in recent days. A brief nod, he grabs his sword and open the interdimensional gate. The wolf golder armor is almost dazzling under the last rays of sun. Kaoru comes directly to it, she won’t ...

“Don’t touch...!”

Too late. The girl put her hand directly on the seal on his waist, but does not seem to burn her. The belt turns a hundred and eighty degrees, surprising Kouga. He experiences a shock. Kaoru smiles.

She points to his shadow, elongated on the ground by the sunset. Wings. The armor has got two big wings. He remembers a paintning that only became true within the magic world, but they gave him some balance with Meshia, and so he achieved to defeat her. Kouga is so impressed that he remains still and silent.

“At the beginning”, she explains “you’ll have to enable or disable them turning the seal, but eventually they’ll obey you will”.

He checks the retraction of the wings as she said, and he succeeds. Then, the metal is released. The face uncovered under it reflects a new and deep respect for the heritage got by his beloved one since, between Kaoru’s hands, it could do much good.

“Not Meshia but you manipulated the armor before you both splitted”. It was not aquestion, but the statement of a fact. “So, it's true that she invented them for the Makai Knights”.

“She created the first one, Kiva’s, to test his worth as an ally. At that time Makai Knights didn’t exist yet, but Kiva’s knowledge about horrors, Meshia and parallel worlds, and the notes he left about his armor, remained here and helped to create and define those ones later which would belong to Makai Knights. He also had a disciple who wouldn’t follow him to the dark path, but contributed a lot to it”.

“Could you manipulate again this armor or another?”

Kaoru sighs.

“It takes a big concentration of energy to make this possible, and yet I'm not sure to remember everything”.

“At that time Meshia wasn’t in position to make such a waste”. He reminds the continuous energetic drain by the luminous beings.

“You don’t know how much energy is needed to maintain and control your whole own world and her fate as she did! As she realized that she was lost and submitted to it, I stopped being influenced by her views. I found all that excess energy and I could give you a gift. Although I didn’t know if I‘d have a chance to show it to you”.

Now, it is Kouga's turn to smile enigmatically. His armor falls on again, this time invoked by his mind. He spread his new wings by turning the seal. His arms grabs Kaoru's waist and the wings begin to flap. When she feels her feet do not touch ground, she protests.

“Hey! You haven’t practiced landing. Wait! They can see us... Planes ... The radar im the airport!”

She stops complaining as the groud is left behind and Gonza, who comes running with a red envelope on a small tray watches, smiling, as the shade of the couple is still rising under the evening sky.
