GARO Fanfic – Exiled’s return, 11
Chapter 11: Vital ordeal
“Kouga!”
The young man surrounded by the Bariri and who strives to protect the unconscious Kaoru sees coming, sideways, the white glow of the flaming Knight Dan. It is his chance. He takes his girlfriend’s body on his arms and, protected by his colleague as he did before to her, he reaches his house.
The horrors stop and come together to discuss.
Kouga leaves Kaoru’s body on the couch and asks Jabi to take care of her.
“It’s a simple concussion, nothing else” the priestess diagnoses. She turns to him. “But I can’t say the same about you”.
Then, Kouga notices the serious look of his four companions.
“Nothing's wrong. Let's go outside before they’d be reorganizated”.
“You're not going anywhere”.
Kouga takes a couple of steps toward Tsubasa.
“We’ll not go through this again, right?”
But there is no challenge in his colleague’s eyes, only a slight sigh moves his chest. Rei speaks.
“Look at yourself in the mirror”.
That is something that Kouga has avoided since returning home. As worried about Kaoru, he had managed to forget his burns, which now seem to start to awake.
“Do it” the knight of the black coat trench insists.
He can not escape from the relentlessness of his peers. Slowly, regretting each step he does, he approaches the fateful mirror of the bureau in the dining room.
Small and large blisters, some parts of blackened skin, and some skin shed at his face greet him. He watches his hands. Many of their blisters have burst by the use of his sword and bringing Kaoru on his arms. Some of them have bled. He knows he should not have looked at: now his pain increases.
Silence.
Soon after, Jabi, Tsubasa, Rei and Akane begin to talk among themselves: both flamethrowers are ready, pity they haven’t been tested before; the knights will fight with sword because the horrors will flee from the Fire and the battle would never end; the priestesses would handle the flamethrowers against the wounded ones; their range is about three meters; and ...
The more they talk, the more they ignore him, his wounds are more painful.
He hears as the others to leave. He does not know what to do with himself. His world collapses.
As a Makai Knight, he has failed.
After a few moments devoted to watch the magnitude of such a disaster, he truly do not know if he could reach to keep anything.
A movement from the couch. Kaoru. How would be able to face her now? How could he face anybody?
“Kouga”.
He looks at her, even without moving from in front of the mirror.
“How do you feel?”
“I’ve got a headache”.
“You’ll get well”.
“Thanks. Again”.
Her beautiful smile touches him, he does not believe to deserve it. Neither to deserve her.
“Thanks to me you remain like this”.
Kaoru lifts a bit to sit on the couch.
“Jabi said that after the battle ...”
“You shouldn’t have accepted her proposal,” he interrupts.
“Why?”
She’s sweet, he thinks, desperating. So sweet! He can not keep talking with his usual bluntness.
“In your current status, your exposure to the Fire has to be a lot greater”.
“But, mixing blood isn’t less risky”.
“It's a proven method!”
His outburst silences the girl. Then, she rises unsteadily. She approaches and stands behind him. She does not talk at once.
“Forgive me”.
The surprise makes him turning his head back a little.
“I was mad because you weren’t there when a horror caught me. I blamed you abut my misfortune, though I knew you’d no way to guess it”.
To protect you is my responsibility, he answers back to himself. I failed. And I keep failing.
“Not even I thought” Kaoru goes on “the possibility that you’re suffering because of me”.
Not only my burnt body but my heart cries out how weak I’ve become. Even Kaoru has noticed it! I'm no use. Only one thing is left to do: offering my life.
“Let to mix the blood”.
He hears a deep sigh behind him.
“Listen to me, Kouga. It’s enough only one of us risks life. Your work is very necessary: you’re Garo”.
I’m no longer, he thinks closing his eyes tightly. But she has not finished talking.
“I am the most dispensable here”.
Kouga's eyes open with such a suddenness that denies the great slowness he turns to face her.
“You know that's not true!”
He spits these words as if it was a curse. One else. Against himself. But Kaoru is the one who he has intimidated, and she remains silent.
Later, she looks down and apologizes.
“I can’t stand you to risk unnecessarily”.
She lifts her hand to touch his face, but she thinks better.
“Oh, it must hurt very much”.
“It doesn’t hurt”.
Honestly he thinks her touch can only be a balm. His silent prayer is heard loud and clear by Kaoru.
Her hand rests lightly on his injuried cheek. A blister bursts and its almost transparent contents moisturizes her delicate hand, sliding quickly down on Kouga’s neck . But they do not care.
“I don’t want you to put your life in danger” she repeats” if can be avoided. Not even for me. I also need you. Can you understand it?”
It is what he told her long time ago, how could not he understand it?
Kouga has forgotten it, but things are like this. Both of them, as individuals, are vulnerable, but their bond is strong, forged with life, blood and death. Nothing can really hurt him as far as this link exists. He collapsed when he thought that Kaoru had left him, but it was not true. He had going through an absurd illusion that had dragged him to the near destruction. His true self did not left him, never, just he stopped believing in it.
It’s enough.
He is Garo, he is strong, he is a destroyer of horrors and therefore those Bariri will be damaged. And, by the tie binding him to Kaoru, he knows she will survive.
The subtle smile playing on his lips is reflected and multiplied by ten on hers. They take hands, strengthful, ro reaffirm the power of their bond.
Breaking glasses.
A horror has gone through the window, one horror with a half of antenna in regeneration. Kouga draws his sword and places himself between Kaoru and the Bariri.
“You again? There's nothing for you in here”.
Something as a rare laugh fills the room. The being from another world is clearly skeptical, and Kouga understands it. It knows they are easy preys: he, unable to wear his armor, and she was ill. The thing the horror does not know is that when a heart is strong, the weakness of the body is less important.
He attacks, and he is close to chop off the other antenna. The horror shrinks and bends them, so that it seems to carry a rare hat, and attacked him back by kicking, clawing and jumping.
Kaoru moves away to give room to Kouga. He deeply regrets not being able to wear his armor. He will reach it again, of course, but now he only can aspire to hurt his enemy with the help of his sword. Indeed, very few horrors that can be eliminated without the use of an armor, so Makai Knights should be able to invoke and wear them. If he could get back enough to light his sword... but he doubts that his adversary allow him that chance. It is gaining ground.
Sideways, he sees Kaoru has taken the flamethrower that the priestesses are adapting to health her. Its mouth is a very short, but as wide as a human body. Kouga starts to put a specific direction to the fight, until the Bariri is accessible to the flamethrower, which is much smaller than those using his peers outside, but Kouga uses its surprise and pain Bariri to cut both antennas touching head, which seems to make him unabled. And Kaoru finishes him off with the Fire.
The couple smiles, pleased with what both of them have achieved together. Suddenly, Kaoru's face shows such an amazement that warns the young man.
“Your skin!”
He wonders if he has lost it all, but she drags him in front of the mirror. The burns are disappearing, as magically as they came.
Kaoru's happiness makes her to jump into his arms. His own, to push her out enough to kiss her.

GARO Fanfic – Regreso de los exiliados, 11
Capítulo 11: Ordalía vital
– ¡Koga!
– No me pasa nada. Vayamos a fuera antes que se reorganicen.
– Tú no vas a ninguna parte.
No sabe qué hacer consigo mismo.
¿Cómo podrá mirar a nadie?
– Koga.
– Gracias a ti.
– Oh, debe dolerte mucho.
– No duele.

GARO Fanfic - Exiled's return, 10
Chapter 10: “H” hour
With his habitual kindness, Gonza had helped her to get up, and now they walk in the garden.
“Miss Kaoru, you are too confined. You need a bit of fresh air” he had said.
Kaoru knew he was right, and although she disliked to disobey Kouga, she followed the good man who just wanted her good.
“ It’s a great temperature. I think this walk it's going to fit me”.
“Of course. Do not worry about anything,” he insists.
The girl does not suspect as they approached the grove, she knows Gonza is trustworthy. So, when they reach the trees and some people begin to come near, she merely look at them in amazement.
“Who are they?”
“They camped here momentarily”.
“D’you mean that Kouga has granted them his permission?”
“Not exactly”.
The group has surrounded both of them. The girl began to feel troubled and gripped Gonza’s arm.
“What ... what happens ...?”
He releases from her hand and says aloud.
“It’s she! Here she is!”
“How can we know it’s true?” a man who looks like a clerk asks.
Kaoru refuses to believe the suspecion that began to emerge.
“Gonza, what is this?”
The fake butler ignores her, and answers the others.
“Check it”.
He grabs Kaoru’s arm and tear open the bandage. She screams of surprise and terror in understanding.
“You know that if we test it we’ll lose our disguises”.
“Who cares! We're here, and it’s enough, right?”
Kaoru's legs weaken when six men begin to turn into horrors as the one who attacked her. Nothing else she can do, but scream in pain and mourn in despair when multiple antennae take turns to getting into the wound in her arm.
“ It’s a great finding” she hears someone to say. “But I think that having discovered it doesn’t entitles you to keep her”.
“It’d be my right” ‘Gonza’ replies “but her days are numbered: human biology rejects ours”.
“Of course, we’re different species. But, as you don’t know how to solve this little problem, marks you as a very bad leader. I'll keep her”.
Sitting on the floor, dirty with ground and strange substances, and no longer in tears, Kaoru notes stunned as all those beings lose their human shapes and begin to scream and fight. Fighting for her, she does not know why. Maybe she should take the commotion to escape to the house. She begins to move slowly to avoid to attract some attention.
A rare glow stains the afternoon. It comes quickly. The horrors stop their dispute. Among grunts of astonishment and rage, they give way to it. Garo, wrapped in green flames, has arrived to rescue her, and none of those things risk to be touched by them. Kaoru sobs in relief when her savior stops some few feet away. He yells.
“Run!”
She stands up shaky, and hurries, but she just may do a little trot. Garo moves around without pause, but soon is forced to lay off his armor.
He looks at her just a moment. However, she can not ignore that his hands and his face show serious burns. Then she remembers that she has always been forbidden to touch his armor because ‘it burns the skin’.
The horrors fall on them. Kouga manages to turn his sword with Fire and gets on scurrying around to protect her. But now the enemies arms themselves with knives, stones, sticks, metal pieces, and throw them to both of them. Kouga manages to reject many of these projectiles, but he can not be everywhere at once. Kaoru falls hit on her head by a spanner.

– No exactamente.
– Comprobadlo.

Chapter 9: Stalk
“That’s going to work?”
“Sure” Kouga replies, as succint as always.
“True, it does” Jabi interjects, coming next to Kaoru “The problem could be the death in the process of one of you. Or both.
Kaoru makes a face that is intended to be a smile. Jabi adds:
“There’s another option, a risky one, too”. Jabi deflects for a moment her sight to Kouga, but he has his eyes focused on some point of the opposite wall. “The Madou Fire in one singe person is less destructive than the normal fire, in physical terms, but its effects are deeper. For example: a hand under a normal fire would burn its affected side, and would leave intact the other one, but the Madou Fire would not burn really that side, but the other one would be affected in the same way. It’s created to reach a different dimension”.
“So, which's the danger?”
“We don’t know how much we can apply on you without seriously hurting you. As far as I know, no one before has tried to heal an entire human body, and your infection is already in you blood, not only in your arm. Plus, never no one tried to heal someone contaminated in this way. We only killed them, you know it”.
Kaoru swallows.
“Does it hurt as much as the normal fire?”
“Fewer, but no problem, I can put you to sleep”.
The ill girl goes away, until a wall, showing her back to the priestess and to her silent boyfriend, and stays for a while lost in her thought. But as she turns back to them, she has clearly made a decision”.
“I’ll accept de Madou Fire”.
Kouga, his face contorted, leaves the room slamming the door.
Jabi shrugs. Then she goes to the door and calls Rei.
“I need you to go to Kantai and bring another priestess.”
“Why?”
“We must build a sort of lighter, but really bigger. And we must do something to heal Kaoru. I can’t do everything alone in the short time I sense we’ve got. Explain them what is happening, and carry here some materials”.
“Good but...” He come closer to Jabi, trying she is the only to hear him. “I worry about Kouga’s insistence about the blood exchange. It's looks as if...”
“He was engaged in self-destruction?” she whispers, worried too.
A quick glance is enough to verify that their attempts to conceal their comments to Kaoru had not been successful.
* * *
Their DNA falls down so soon that it was not easy to maintain fifteen human copied simultaneously. They are everywhere, and now as Poisoned Edge knows how much interdependent they are - how could they flourish? the Bariri wondered for the umpteenth time - and the amazing ways that they are interconnected, they have avoided to get some attention. Of course, it was not always possible, and three policemen, four shopkeepers and two bystanders had to be eliminated. Although it not easy to decide who ate them. For a Bariri without hunger, a human is bland. Invertebrates are tastier, but they're so small! The horrors have lost too much time eating. From now on, everyone knows, they will be fed mostly on human beings.
They stole a truck which was unloading at a supermarket. Although their copied bodies could taste their wares, most of they threw it out because they felt disgusting that humans could feed on vegetables and dead meat. This vehicle is going to lead them to the Garo’s residence, to finish what Poisoned Edge alone could not.
He himself, sitting beside the driver, has emerged as the leader of the expedition: he has given others the information that no other Bariri have about humans, about how they have killed Barago and Kiva. His sermons encouraged everyone: they all had felt Meshia’s death in their flesh, and they were in a state of prostration when he found them.
And now here they are, determined to finish the single greatest threat remaining: the Makai Knight who can become another Kiva. And they will become the owners of both worlds. Although Poisoned Edge knows that after the victory, another bloody war was going to break out between them for power ... and survival.
The siren of the ambulance? No, it is the police one. Is it possible that they have already found the stolen truck? They made sure to kill its driver! The police car make signs for them to stop.
“Stop” he says to his driving companion. “Let’s they to leave us go”.
“Why we never thought about copying cops?” the other asked while braking.
Probably, Poisoned Edge believes, because some of their original subjects do not sympathize with them. But the pilot is right, it may be useful.
“Let’s go to get them” he says.
The policemen put their car crossed on the way of the truck. The two agents go out and so the two unknown horrors. When the four of them stands joined, both policeman are suddenly scratched on their face, and then carried inside the cargo compartment, where thirtheen Bariri remain. The police car is parked next to a nearby park and the horrors resume their journey. Arriving to their destination, the big vehicle is hidden among the thick trees surrounding the enemy’s house.
The two policemen who knock on the door watch Gonza, before Poisoned Edge scratched him like he uses. The yell of the surprised steward is quickly crushed by another blow, and the other policeman load him on his shoulders and carries him away.
The homeowner, alerted by the yell, comes.
“A false alarm, sir” Poisoned Edge answers, while acceds quickly to the memories of his original subject. “There were two policemen and I was scared”.
“Do cops scare you?”
“No, of course...” The horror hastly looks whithin Gonza’s mind. “But I... was concerned about ... circumstances, and I got distracted”.
The enemy leaves the lobby, and he observes the thoughts having access: there are three Makai Knights and two Makai Priestesses inside the house, making weapons based on Madou Fire. Apparently, he laments to himself, the knowledge about the Bariri is not lost among Makai humans, despite the time elapsed since the last time the two species came into contact. He will need to alert others before the attack. And there's Kaoru, ill from infection. Poisoned Edge does not want her to die soon, he needs the others to see her, to verify that she was the container of Meshia. And thus vindicate the inheritance of the Mother of all of them: it is his right, he discovered her, and worked about Garo. The role of undisputed leader of both worlds belongs to him.

“There are some people hanging around” the priestess Akane says after collecting the things Gonza bought at the hardware store.
Four pairs of eyes looked at her, inquisitive.
“What did you see?”
“A guy among the trees looking this way. I asked your butler if he had seen something else as he was going or coming back, but he didn’t”.
“So, my eyes didn’t deceive me” Tsubasa adds, drawing all sights toward him. “Tonight, while keeping guard, I thought I saw someone coming out from the woods. But it was only for a moment”.
Jabi stop trying to fit two pieces of metal to move closer to her colleage, and speaks softly, but high enough so that the other occupants of the room could hear it.
“Hav’you noticed anything suspicious in Gonza?”
“I do not know him enough”.
Kouga leaves on the table the big graphics book that he holds in his arms.
“Ar’you saying he might not be him?”
“Why he hasn’t seen anyone?” Jabi asks.
“Perhaps,” Kouga protests loudly, approaching to her “because the outsiders hid as they saw someone coming”.
“See that he’s become very curious”.
The owner of the house said defensively.
“You’d be, too, if your life was in danger and you didn’t know what was being done to protect it”.
“Maybe you're right,” she soothes him. “In any case, it looks as we’ve got very few time. Let's see if we finish those flamethrowers. We should be able to test them before to be used”.
Jabi, Akane, Rei and Tsubasa return to work on the equipment, but Kouga leaves the room.
“I’m standing guard”.
Jabi's doubts have told on him and he wants, above all, to bring back Kaoru among them, to secure her. About an hour ago he had led her to her room to rest, and his heart skips a beat by not seeing her there.
“Kaoru! Gonza!” he yells.
He waits some few distressing seconds before to run into his own room to take his sword.

– No, claro...
* * *
– ¿Qué has visto?
– ¿Has notado algo sospechoso en Gonza?
– Voy a hacer guardia.

GARO Fanfic – Exiled’s return, 8
Chapter 8: Research
“I see you managed to awaken the ‘sleeping beauty’” Rei says ironically in coming into, causing his companions to lift their eyes from the opened book on the table.
“He woke up by his own” Jabi points.
“Good”. Rei approaches them and drops a newspaper on the table. “Because we’re busy”.
Jabi and Kouga read the headline: There are no clues about the perpetrators of the mysterious mutilations yet.
“Mutilations?” Kouga shows amazed.
Rei bases to rest on the table with both hands.
“They’re awful scratches anywhere on the body, or bites. At the time of the closure of the newspaper, there’re seven victims. Two among them have bled to death”.
The young man notes the effect the news has on his two companions, take a seat next to them, and goes on.
“They’ve tracked the origin of these incidents to the Kaoru’s case, the first one known. Survivors tell about people who suddenly assaulted them without a cause. Others say about unusually large animals”.
“Animals?” Kouga asked again.
“Look”. The younger knight takes the newspaper and read a paragraph. “‘Yoshio Mutsuda tells he was bitten by a poodle, but of a tiger size’” He watches the other occupants of the table. “Do you see? These horrors can metamorphose into any kind of being, but can not increase or decrease their size. Certainly, I don’t like the idea to face such a big bee!”
Jabi and Kouga look at each other.
“So, are there more than one?” she asks.
“Probably” Kouga says. “The book tells about an entire race of horrors”.
“And they also can work together” Rei adds. “Unbelievable!”
“According to the book” Jabi says, “they’re more intelligent, so they can do it. But, they’re also more vulnerable when they’re hungry. Then, their instincts overwhelm them. One of their weaknesses, is a bump on the stomach level that, as destroyed, disrupts their ability to feel satiated. Then, they become killing machines”.
“What a weak point!” Rei exclaims, sarcastically. “That is, to finish them, we must feed them to burst. Any idea where we can get the food surplus?” Silence. “Are there more ‘good’ news?”
“Soul metal doesn’t kill them, although it injures them” Kouga answers. “But they’re pretty vulnerable to Madou Fire”.
“And, they breed” the priestess adds.
“Wait!” Rei has almost risen from his chair. “D’you mean that these creatures aren’t born from Meshia secretions?”
“Sure they are” Jabi says, “but, apparently this is the original breed of horrors, and may have other attributes. Maybe they’re even another species”.
“So, there’re males and females among them”.
Jabi shrugs.
“As the subsequent horrors have no sex, maybe they’re hermaphrodites”.
“We must foresee” Kouga contributes “when they need reinforcements perhaps they can self-fertilize. We don’t know how long they need to give birth to a new horror. Or more than one. Nor, we don’t know how short or long their childhood may be either”.
“So” Rei concludes “we don’t know if they may increase their number from seven to fourteen or to a hundred in a few days”.
* * *
The trio does experiments with the piece of antenna that Rei cut from the horror which tried to kill Kouga. Rei sends a burst of Madou Fire to it and Jabi, by a strange gatget made of skin of who knows what animal, attempts to get the resistance on the cells of the horror.
“Dead” she finds “but we don’t know if an alive horror will be more resistant”.
“Bet your magic brush” Rei comments.
“Excuse me”.
The three turn to the door. Gonza is at the threshold.
“Mr Kouga, a messenger requires your presence”.
“Sign yourself the receipt, as always” the lanlord replies.
“He insists that it must be handed”.
Annoyed, Kouga leaves his colleages.
The messenger left in his hands a rectangular package where would fit, in Gonza’s opinion, a small appliance. But there are holes on both sides. And it moves. Also, he was given a letter at his name.
A baby. Inside there is a baby. Kouga and the butler look each other in amazement.
“There must be a mistake” Gonza says. “Who would think to send a baby through the mail? This is reportable!”
The young man looks back at the little one with a growing concern, before to open the letter.
* * *
Why?
Standing and motionless in front of the static and sitting body of Kaoru, Kouga’s mind rushes into a whirlpool of speculations.
“Don’t blame her before to allow her an explanation. You did it once and butt in, d’you remember?”
Kouga knows Rei is right but, what can he do when all his doubts assail him! This baby is about three months, Jabi said. He had to be born in Italy. And he had to be bred there. The only person he loves in the world has cheated him, and to conceal it she has left her son. A double deception. And now there is a child without parents. Could he trust her again?
“Hey, Kouga” Jabi interrupts his suppositions, “it’s obvious that there's someone very interested in accusing Kaoru. If not, the ‘package’ would come to her name, and not yours. This thing deserves to keep the doubt”.
He closes his eyes tightly, his anger rising. A strong hand rests on his right shoulder. He is about to turn around suddenly and give a blow to him or her, but he restrains himself in time.
“Please”. Jabi's voice speaks with a kindness that denies the strength of her arm. “Remember: that horror has weakened your spirit. You haven’t never shown your doubts, well, you even don’t believe in them. Your greatest power has been taken away, don’t forget it, my friend”.
She says so big truth! Kouga do not recognize himself, but he does not know how to retrieve his true self. All he can do is to watch his hieratic beloved one and to scream to her silently, to ask her help to answer his questions.
“Excuse me”. Gonza enters into with a newspaper in his hand. “I was commissioned to buy the today one”.
Rei is about to pick it up.
“Thanks”.
Gonza goes out, and Rei sits to seek some useful news about the movements of the Bariri horrors. Jabi comes closer to the little one, lying in an armchair.
“How much time ago he hasn’t eaten? He hasn’t even cried, hasn’t slept...”
Kouga and Rei and turn to her, they have not realized it. Rei returns to his reading, but Kouga approaches, somewhat bewildered.
“Why have he to cry?”
Jabi bursts into laughter.
“Kouga, you have to be a dad, for you to learn what a baby is”.
Before he wonders whether to replicate or not, Rei exclaims:
“Look at this!”
They come closer to him, and he reads:
“’... Also, it is remarkable the death of a child fifteen weeks old, because his leg was almost torn off’”.
Three pairs of eyes turn, cautious, to the little being in the armchair.
* * *
“That damned shield is draining your energy, you do have to destroy it!”
“If I can’t heal Kaoru, no”.
“And, what is going to happen when the father or the mother of the baby horror came to get him? That little monster almost bit you, but you were too distracted to avoid it and your reaction has been slow. So, you’re useless, okay?”
Kouga peers at his colleague. Then, at the silent priestess.
“So, help me to share my blood with Kaoru”.
“That one again?” she protests.
“That one, or no one”.
“Why don’t you ask to Kaoru?” the girl replies. “Don’t you think you're taking too many decisions belonging to her? Did you ever ask her opinion before freezing her in the time?”
“Of course I did! And I promised her to undo the spell when I had the medicine”.
“Then, wake her up” Rei interjects. “She’s to decide whether to accept the blood exchange, or to test the Madou Fire”.
“But” Kouga still protests, “although we’ve seen that it has effectively put an end to the child horror, that intensity of fire could kill her!”
“Let her to decide it!” Rei's shout is conclusive. Then, more softly: “There’s always the possibility of re-freeze her, right?”

– ¿Animales? –vuelve a preguntar Koga.
* * *

* * *
Jabi rompe a carcajadas.
* * *
–exige Rei.
– Si no puedo curar a Kaoru, no.

GARO Fanfic – Exiled’s return, 7
Chapter 7: Ghosts
Next morning Rei, with one of his shorter swords, partially collapses the spell protecting the Shrine of Darkness, and the trio can go into its area.
“Good hiding place” the younger knight admits. “It’s unvisible from outside but, look at what it’s behid the spell!”
It is a black and almost cubic structure on one level and, contrary to what would be normal, made of stone. It is without any windows or architectural ornaments, or steps, or anything that catches your attention, except its shape, stuff and color.
“Plain essence” Jabi concludes after watching it. “This building was made to bear something as dark as genuine”.
“And, you think we will find here something about the Bariri horrors?” Kouga adds pragmatically.
“ ‘Legendary horrors capable of becoming physically and auric the humans they choose’, the Enciclopaedia said” she replies. “I understand that here there’re stored the most old and obsolete books and, also, the most dangerous ones. I don’t know where else we could find a legend”.
“Zaruba” Rei turns to Kouga’s ring, “this is the place where Barago found the book that got him lost, doesn’t it?
“Indeed”.
“Look”.
Jabi points to a metal plate attached near the doorway, inscribed with the text: ‘Honorable guests, take care of the spirits of those ones who remained here’.
“So, it’s a graveyard or a cursed place?” This idea looks to amuse Rei, but it does not deserves the consideration of his two workmates.
They cross the threshold, and there is a hallway with some doors. The ceiling is invisible, so hight it is. Soon, their trained eyes to the darknes can see a room.
“Fascinating!” Jabi rushes there. “It’s a real sanctuary!” When Kouga and Rei get there, she adds: “Or, at least, it was at some point”.
At the middle a platform raises, where the priest did his job. Jabi jumps up quickly. Its floor lights up.
“Jabi, I think you should get down” Kouga says. “We don’t know what it was and, apparently, it still works.”
She ignores him and looks for a meditative state, until she gets dizzy and is dropped by both knights.
“Incredible!” She says after recovering. “I had a vision of the world of the horrors, I know it was!”
“Don’t do something as stupid as that again” Kouga scolds her. “You haven’t been trained to practice in a sanctuary”.
“You know something, Kouga? You're getting more grumpy than usual”.
Afterwards, they spread over the rooms of the hall. Rei’s inspection is very slow. Each step he does, every place his eyes fix, show him a strange book, a curious artifact or a bag full of some apparently unknown substances. He has a trouble concentrating on what they have come to do.
Jabi feels suddenly trapped by the archaic objects which, in its time, had to be useful. She recognizes ones and deducts the use of others, but some few ones are an enigma to her. She feels tempted to take away some of them to be studied in her spare time. But, at last, she holds under the folds of her full skirt a book entitled The Shrine of Darkness.
Kouga knows what they are looking for, and puts all his attention on it. He reads titles and opens cupboards, and nothing can distract him. Until a book falls right at his feet. He turns to see the cause of such an unexpected landing, without success. He understands that the book seeks to him. He feels invaded by the reminding of what happened to Barago in this place, but he reads its title anyway: Advanced Attack and Defense. He leafs it, curious, but soon his fingers stop in one of its pages, which he reads eagerly. Until he hears Jabi’s voice.
“I’ve found it!”
Kouga save the ancient book in an inner pocket of his trench coat and goes to her.
* * *
Twenty-four hours later Rei and Jabi try to enter into Kouga’s house, but no one comes to open the door.
“Didn’t we agree to meet at this time”?
Rei does not respond, but pulls out a wire from inside his black trench coat and puts it in the lock of the door.
“Why am I not surprised that you knew to do that?”
Jabi displays a sly smile when asked, but Rei does not seem to find it funny.
“If my dad had come to learn it” he says, “I'd be screwed”.
A ‘click’ marks the opening of the door. They enter. On the little table in the spacious lobby there is an envelope, and the letter apparently contained inside it, on the floor. Rei pull it up to put in on the table, but a casual glance at its content does stop him to read it.
“Stupid!” he exclaims, drawing the attention of his fellow. “He has brought Kaoru from the hospital, with the explicit opposition by the doctor!”
“Don’t be so surprised. What could the doctor do?”
“Firstly, if she stays here, he’ll be more distracted. Besides, why discharging her from the hostpital, if we can’t do anything for her either?”
Jabi shrugs.
“He's in love. You’re worrying too much about it”.
The young knight shakes his head in disbelief, but Jabi has stopped to attend him and goes to the salon”.
“What’s the...”
She rushes into the room and Rei hurries behind her.
It is a strange scene. Kaoru, sitting on an armchair, so much hieratic. Stiff. In front of her, on the floor, Kouga looks to have been left where and how he fall down.
Jabi can not wake up Kouga. He’s dull, she finds out after touching his aura with her hand.
Surprised because Kaoru looks foreign to everything happening there, Rei aims to shake her with a hand, but he seizes it away and screams. He rocks it with his face contorted with pain.
Jabi takes out her attention from his childhood friend. Rei's hand is rarely pale, swollen, and still aching. She touches it. It is hard as a stone. She turns to the girl on the armchair.
“ There’s some kind of energy surounding her. What’s this?”
The priestess watches that there is a medium sized book on the floor. A very old one. She picks it up.
“Advanced Attack and Defence” she reads, and eyes it. “Do you bet that he found it inside the Temple of Darkness?”
“He's insane!”
Rei began to notice that his damaged hand softens, gradually returning to normal. By her side, Jabi has found a white paper, a modern one, among the pages of that book.
“This’s what he’s made: a shield of time” she concludes, after reading the marked page.
“A what?”
“A spell capable to isolate a being or a thing inside a capsule where time has stopped to run” she says.
Rei, shaking his hand almost restored, looks at the unconscious Kouga with some admiration.
“So, he’s managed to protect her”.
Jabi, which has taken away her eyes from reading, adds:
“But the power invoked by him to pass through himself in order to be controlled, and I fear that it may have damaged him”.
“I knew something was wrong. He’s lost any consciousness of his limits”.
“He never really had them” Jabi says, sitting beside the young man on the floor. “Kouga has lived on the edge of destiny, remaining balanced, yearning no more than necessary. But, he’s lost his link with his heart and, now, he’s a man in the jaws of that same fate”.
“His weakness has turned his love into an obsession”.
“Shut up. That sounds like an epitaph”.

– Esencia desnuda –concluye Jabi, tras observarlo–.
* * *
– Calla. Éso ha sonado como un epitafio.
– ¿No quedamos en reunirnos a esta hora?

Chapter 6: Penetration
Kaoru does not feel well when he comes. With a bouquet of white roses in one hand, which is a pleasant surprise by Kouga. She hoped he to run towards her, but just he stopped after crossing the threshold, as an imposing statue dressed in black and white, staring at the occupant of the aseptic room.
“Have you the purpose to remain there?”
Kaoru smiles, and wider when he approaches the bed.
“Is that for me?" She preads her good arm to the flowers, which Kouga seems to have forgotten. He gives them carefully, avoiding to touch her.
“Thanks”.
She hides her face among the flowers to escape Kouga’s staring. He should be happy to see her, he would have to ask what has happened, he would have to hold her, and taking her hands, and stroking her, to give her some security. He should be mad at who has done this. It is she who has a reason to stay like an idiot in his presence, because he was not there when she was attacked by a horror!
When finally he raises his head, his gaze stares at the floor now, and just he hears a big sigh. Just for a moment, he looks at her and let she to see the chaos, the self reproach, and the pain inside his heart. And they quickly disappear. An old barrier has been erected between them, one she did not expect to see again.
Knowing him as she does, Kaoru knows that she will not get anything from him, but remembered what Rei said as he brought her to the hospital: her double had seduced himself (and did you believe it?, she reproached him) and it had left kouga after shattering him.
“Rei told me what that horror did. You know I was not, right?”
“It really cheated to me” he answers, looking at his knees.
“Didn’t you imagine it could be a horror?”
He shakes his head.
“I never heard of horrors able fully to get the shape of a human being. Zaruba didn’t ever noticed it. But today I have seen it as changing its shape”.
“Well, from now on, if I complain that someone has scratched me, you’ll ensure that I am, okay?”
Kaoru laughs halfheartedly. He turns to look at her and asks her to tell her experience. After telling, he remains pensive.
A doctor enters. Before he can say a word, Kouga assails him, at last showing some sense, which gives some relief of the young woman.
“Doctor, how’s she?”
“Are you her husband?”
“Almost. How’s she?”
“Miss Mitsuki has no family?”
“No”. Kouga is getting “Tell me how Kaoru is!”
The doctor, somewhat intimidated by Kouga’s stature, presence and persistence, is slow to answer, and when he does, he speaks slowly and prudently, unable to avoid to look at him instead of at her. But Kaoru does not feel uncomfortable about it: he has reasumed his role as protector, and that is something she needs now.
“The infection in her arm does not react to antibiotics. We do not know which the infectious agent is, but we are waiting the outcoming of some further tests. Then, everything will be easier”.
“Kaoru doesn’t have much time” Kouga replies dryly.
The puzzled doctor leaves the room after hesitating a moment. Kouga has such a character, she thinks sympathetically with the leaving man. Kouga says without looking up.
“Doctors will find a virus or bacterium that is not from this world, but don’t worry, there are alternatives and I’ll find it”.
“Another Barankas fruit?”.
“Maybe”.
Slowly, he takes her hand and presses it with uncertainty unworthy of him. She does not dare to cross the new barrier, but fortunately he still is the same as always.
Her hand between his makes its way up, towards his face, forcing him to lower his head. He closes his eyes to feel this gentle touch. He puts his own hand over hers and looks at her, his eyes showing some hurt for a second time. She smiles slightly, until he breaks free and leaves.
Kaoru drops his arm on the bed. Her story repeats.
* * *
That night at home, Kouga receives Rei and Jabi’s visit. He explains the facts for the priestess to know.
“A horror that becomes its own victims, and that a madou jewels can’t detect?”
“If you haven’t heard about that” Rei says “clearly there's nothing to know, or it’s a recent mutation”.
“Don’t be so sure” Jabi replies”. I don’t know everything. Hav’you seen into the books?”
“No Makai book has a title suggesting the faintest such a thing" Kouga answers. “While I've been waiting for you, I’ve put an eye into the Yamada Classification of Horrors, without a success”.
“Perhaps, if we seek a Barankas fruit ...” Rei suggests.
“A couple of days ago” the priestess replies, “two workmates went to get one, but they didn’t found”.
“Is there anyone else in danger?”
“No. However we want to provide a conservational method for a Barankas fruit without it to lose its properties”.
“I wish ye be lucky”.
Kouga's voice has a slight tinge of desperation that Jabi can get. She goes to her chilhood friend, who is sitting and staring through the open window.
“Hey, maybe antivirals are surprising us...”.
The sigh he throws to her looks to want killing her, almost. He does not need any false hopes. She walks a pair of steps away.
“Jabi” and she turns to attend him again. “Teach me how to do a blood exchange”.
Silence.
“You're crazy” she complains at last. “To have you missing to save her is profitable? Or missing you both?”
“No one is going to be missing” he protests.
Rei gets up.
“This attitude is good most of the time, but doesn’t work always”.
“I refuse to risk Garo if there’s no substitute in training” Jabi adds firmly. “That would be irresponsible by me”.
Kouga looks at both of them, one after another. Then, move away from the window.
“If you doesn’t teach me, I'll take the books and I'll do it by my own.”
Another serious silence.
“This is insane” she whispers, shaking her head, and turns her back in disbelief.
“You're fooling yourself” Rei interjects. He approaches to the homeowner. He adds in a low voice, as if sharing a confidence. “I also know that faith coming from within the heart, which tells that you'll do what you set in your mind really. But you need to be balanced to be right, and you now you're not. Besides, you’re unable to see that Kaoru was not under the guise of that horror. You remained deceived until the last moment: your perception failed miserably and, now, you’re not able to give your blood to anyone. I’d dare to say -and I'm sorry- now, you’re unable to assume any risk”.
Kouga returned to the window and now his hands hold the frame of the open window, and his gaze is lost down among the soft lawn. He remains silent, his lips pursed in frustration, until his eyes have to close to bear his heart.
“Then, I look so bad?” He asked finally, trying to avoid leaving the room badly.
Jabi approaches him and places her hand on his shoulder, and presses gently.
“The Kouga I know would ignore all these arguments because his strength is not in words but in his heart. I wonder how that horror could to weaken you so much”.
“Just that” Rei understands it well, "because it attacked his heart. It went after him. Absolutely”.
Jabi turns to the younger knight.
“Then, it may want to take advantage of that. But we’ll be unable to detect its presence, which compels us to inquire about such sort of horrors, beyond the need to save Kaoru”.
They both look at Kouga.
“Do you agree?” the priestess says.
He does not respond.
“Kouga!” Jabi forces him to look at her, and shakes him once. “Please react! This way you can’t protect either Kaoru or anyone!”
“I follow you” he replies at the end, getting rid of the girl’s hand roughly. “Somewhere there must be some info about them. Let's start with the Makai Encyclopaedia. Being three, we’ll finish early. We'll have to read all the definitions that look to have some possibilities. Jabi, start from the beginning, Rei, from the end, and I, after the first third of the book”.

– No necesariamente –replica Jabi–.
No necesita falsas esperanzas.
– Te estás engañando a ti mismo –interviene Rei.
– ¿Tan mal me veis?
Él no responde.
– ¡Koga!

Also, now I have found a translation of the text in the picture here:
Saejima Kouga. He is the Golden Knight, inheriting the name GARO, one who has reached the highest level of the Makai Knights that fight an age-old battle with the Horrors. Even after defeating the strongest Horror "Messiah", he continued to fight alone...
Under the direction of Amemiya Keita, the new movie "GARO ~RED REQUIEM~" will be shot in full 3D. Set after the events of the original GARO tv series, the main character will of course continue to be Saejima Kouga.
After experiencing heated battles with Horrors one after another, one can see how strong how Kouga has grown with one look at his sturdy back. The Makai Sword he holds in his hand also continues to grow in radiance. Saejima Kouga = Golden Knight GARO, his battle will continue on the big screen. And how will the 3D affect the retelling of this story?
The official release is set for 2010. Wait for it!
Thank you, Estrea!
Well, I think it is the translation because I know some of these words, including "Messhia" (メッシア at the picture).
